Italian to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers (general)
Italian term or phrase:evoluzione temporale
Text is about a probing system for a mobile network:
184.108.40.206. Laddove al query riporti più risultati aggregati su base temporale (es. su base oraria) deve essere possibile mostrare su mappa l’evoluzione temporale stessa mediante visualizzazione continua del valore del KPI all’interno della mappa stessa.
Thank you for your comments on my answer. Thank you for saying 'it is true'. As a 'Native English engineer', I can say I would use it. 'Temporal evolution' is being used to describe improvements of things such as websites over their history. 'Time' is a noun, its adjective form being 'temporal' - 'temporal' being the adjective that modifies 'evolution.' 'Evolution' is different than 'change' --- otherwise, it'd be Darwin's theory of change. 'Temporal' is an English word (engineer or not) - 'evolution' is an English word, as well. They are logical and make sense.
(@"Mr Murray"): "It means the same thing in Italian and English" is true in a limited sense. The difference is that a native English engineer would not write those words (well, I wouldn't anyway) because "evolution" is only used to describe something that happens over a long period of time. Both the examples you quote were written by native users of Italian or Spanish and I conclude they were in their minds translating literally from their own languages when they wrote "temporal evolution".

as a function of time
Explanation: I think it just means that the display should provide a graph showing the KPI (Key Performance Indicator?) vertically, with time along the horizontal axis.

Explanation: The same as in Italian basically - temporal evolution.
This is a relatively common wording in English. (try "temporal evolution" in your favourite search engine). See also at least one example I provide below related to mobile networks as per the translation. And another example to show it's not limited to networks.
I see no reason to change it now, especially given this document is designed for a technical audience.
It means the same thing in Italian and English.
Temporal evolution of the number of replica nodes in case of variations in time of the content demand, for a mobile network. [web source]
Temporal evolution of a decision-making process in medial premotor cortex. [web source]
