Italian to English translations [PRO] Science - Geography / academic paper on the Sicily badlands
Italian term or phrase:u.s.l.
"Il clima è tipicamente Mediterraneo, caratterizzato da estati asciutte ed inverni mediamente freddi poco piovosi; i dati di pioggia sono stati ricavati da due stazioni meteorologiche: Scillato (376 m u.s.l.) situata a circa 5 km a SE e Collesano (460 m u.s.l.) situata a circa 5 km a nord-est dall’area di studio."
Surely this means 'above sea level', but in that case I would expect it to read 'a.s.l.'. Clearly, as we are talking about inland weather stations, it can't mean 'under sea level'. Perhaps it's a typo, but it does come up 3 times in the document (and 'a.s.l.' doesn't appear at all).
