Buongiorno, mi è stato chiesto di tradurre dall'italiano all'inglese queste affermazioni.
Io avevo tradotto quell'italiano "riteniamo sia ragionevole ritenere" semplicemente con "we believe that the failure occurred due..." ma il collega Ing. a cui ho fatto correggere il testo me lo ha reso così: "we believe that the is reasonable to assume that"

Sinceramente non sono convinta della sua correzione, inoltre ho letto sul dizionario che assume significa "to accept sth to be true without question or proof", ma in questo caso, essendo state fatte delle analisi, non mi sembra corretto questo verbo. Che ne pensate?

Your colleague is correct here. "Ritenere ragionevole" here affects the meaning. It is not just "we believe that [...] occurred due to," but rather, the writer is stating that he believes it is reasonable to assume that [...] occurred due to [...]. It's a slightly different meaning.
