Requirement for thermometers in a particular system:

"-ad espansione di mercurio con capillare ed armatura del capillare in acciaio inossidabile totalmente compensato di lunghezza 6 m oppure a sodo;"

I can't work out what is meant here. Hardened steel perhaps?
