Italian term or phrase: nucleo antisofistazione
I know that the acronym NAS expands to this, and that it's something to do with the disposal of drugs and the tracking down of illicit drug trafficking. But I haven't been able to find the whole term, or the word "antisofistazione" or even "sofistazione". Any ideas?

food tampering enforcement unit (or a variation on that theme)
Explanation:
The NAS are a unique unit. They belong to the Carabinieri and their focus is law enforcement more than prevention. There is no equivalent to my knowledge in English-speaking countries (we Anglo-Saxons must not care about our food that much), though the French may have a unit in the Gendarmerie that does this.
Since the unit enforces consumer protection, agriculture, and public health laws, the NAS might be translated differently in different documents.
Good luck,
Jonathan

foodstuff (or medication) adulteration prevention unit

Explanation:
You couldn't find "antisofistazione" because you had it spelled incorrectly, is all. Sofisticazione=adulteration of foodstuffs. If the context of your text is medical, perhaps it has to do with illegal tampering with and/or counterfeiting of legal drugs?

Hope that helped,
Maureen
