Italian term or phrase: escrescenze di Plateau
From a text regarding the mechanics of collagen fibres:

Explanation:
I suspect that the real original text is "bourrelet de LA PEAU" (and then 'escrescenze DELLA PELLE". You can find many references about this thicking that involves the collagene fibres

e.g.

sorry, I didn't realize the target text was English!

well, a further research was a good source fo new hints
and I think you could translate it so

*Fibrous plaques*

"Fibrous plaques were classified as collagen and/or SMC-rich lesions without lipid accumulation."
Fibrous plaques were classified as collagen and/or SMC-rich lesions without lipid accumulation.

ah

of course another option would be
*fibrous nodules*

http://www.google.it/search?num=30&hl=it&safe=off&q=collagen...

but, I don't know, that weird strange original text with the mysterious 'Plateau' bring me to conclude that we are dealing more likely with 'plaques' than with 'nodules'
But of course this option is also possible since they are also defined 'veri e propri nodi,'

neutral  SJLD: I've had a look too for the term in French - it only occurs in this guy's paper - must be an error - the description though is that of a build-up/overlay of fibres to create a "ridge"/it's not about skin though

-> yes,as I said I guess it's a typo for "bourrelet de LA PEAU".But I also believe that the text describes the situation from a microscopical, not simply external and visual (->scar),point of view R:ah OK I thought you're referring to hypertrophic scars :)
