Italian term or phrase: avente titolo
I'm trying to translate a series of documents relating to research on viruses and vaccines. In this document, which describes a technique to test whether a virus has been inactivated, there is the following phrase:

" Virus della xxxxx infettiva, avente titolo di 100 DITC50/ml."

This sentence appears in a section called Materials ... a list of the materials required to perform the test being described. The next sentence says 'Sospensione virale da controllare' and other materials follow.

'titolo' here refers to the chemistry term 'titer' or 'titre' (UK) ... this is not about a 'title.' I just don't have the chemistry background to know how to say it in English! (An explanation of DITC would help also ....)

Grazie.

Va bene, Alexander. It sounds right (and quite simple now that you show me what it is) and you've gotten some good support. Thank you for your help, and thank you luskie for the additional information :)

agree  luskie: and DITC should be TCID (tissue culture infectious dose) - here the titre is expressed as the number of "doses infecting 50% of cultures" per ml
