Italian to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Metallurgy / Casting / historical
Italian term or phrase:maglia di ferro cotto
This is articles of armour and I know it as chain mail, but I'd feel better if I knew a precise term for "ferro cotto", to help me with "cotte" which is surcoats or hauberk or coat of mail. Annealed iron would make sense to make it soft and ductile.

hope this can be useful:
Carburizing wrought iron is often referred to as case hardening and has been known to metal workers from antiquity.13 The process is to take an iron or low carbon steel bar or plate and pack it in an organic material in a sealed vessel and then bake at high temperature (a red heat) for a long period of time. The organic material supplies carbon, which leaches into the item creating steel over time. One of the best materials for this is charcoal dust.
