Italian term or phrase: possate muri massa
This is something Pelagia says in "Corelli's mandolin" and i cannot find what it means...thanks
Kobe College
English translation:May yourselves be killed
Explanation:
It's not Italian, it's "vernacolo" (dialect) from Rome or middle part of Italy. Its real spelling is "possiate mmorì 'mmazzà". That means - exactly - "May yorselves die by murder".

the potent walls of Massa?

Explanation:
Not knowing the context... could it be latin: possate also meaning potent, impressive. muri could walls but also the sides of the mountains from which the famous marble is extracted, in Massa Carrara. Just a thought.

Explanation:
Maybe not exactly Roman (mori rather than muri in Rome, and ammazzato), but great detective work by our colleague.
