Italian to English translations [PRO]
Italian term or phrase: Trados rates
This is not a terminology question. I urgently need to know how to give rates with Trados, according to the various kinds of matches.
Many thanks and Happy New Year

English translation:This is not a terminology answer ...
Explanation:
Dear Laura G,

There was a discussion earlier this year on the subject on the TW_users Egroup mailing list.
Contributors reported that various rates discounts (including none at all) were being applied. There was no consensus.
As ever, the important thing is to agree a scale that you and your customer are happy with. Be tight-fisted initially, as it is easier to loosen your purse-strings than to tighten them!
Sooner or later, you will probably also have to deal with the question of who "owns" the translation memories you create. Again, TW users reported a wide range of practice but I can see no reason why customers should not have copies (if not actual ownership) of the TMs generated by their business. Make it clear from the start what will happen and there shouldn't be any tears later on.
