I think the best solution is the one you thought too detailed: 'mullioned window with two lights'.
According to Angela Arnone 'mullion' is a wooden support, whereas Zanichelli says: 'colonnina (di finestra bifora, trifora...)' so it might be of other material, I gather.
and similarly The New Oxford Dictionary: 'a vertical bar between the panes of a glass in a window'.

Mullions are wooden supports - in Italian it would be finestra con montante
I don't think you've got that information - it just says it's a double light window.

MULLING OVER MULLIONS

Ciao Pietra e colleghi!
Con un po' più di tempo a disposizione ho fatto delle ricerche (anche perché la bifora/trifora mi capita in testi che traduco). Ho peccato di superficialità (mancanza di tempo come tutti) a dire che "mullion" è in legno.
Mullion si traduce 1 (archit.) colonnina (di finestra bifora, trifora, ecc.) e 2 (falegn.) regolo verticale (di finestra).- vedi Zanichelli.
Può essere non solo in legno ma anche in metallo (vedi Glossario di architettura medievale) ed in muratura.
Dove volevo arrivare è che bifora in sé significa "due fori" e sta per finestra bifora, in particolar modo quelle finestre ogivali a due sezioni così tipiche del gotico. Esiste monofora ed anche trifora.
Care colleghi, come avreste tradotto monofora e trifora. Anche trifora e "mullioned", solitamente.
Dopo tanti anni (lavorando con pochi mezzi - Internet non c'era e i vocabolari a prezzi stellari e non sempre si era in grado di capire se ciò proposto facesse al proprio caso) invito chi è nuovo al mestiere di farsi tesoro dei consigli (anche incompleti) degli altri. Serve per crearsi un proprio stile, e questo non accade copiando verbatim da fonti web (anche loro scrivono strafalcioni), per crescere e per aiutare altri a crescere. Io partecipo volentieri a kudoz, faccio gaffes, aiuto gli altri e soprattutto sto imparando tantissimo.
