Italian to English translations [PRO]
Italian term or phrase: uccellanda
Nella campagna friulana, che appare dall'alto curata come un giardino, resiste ancora qualche "uccellanda" , memoria di quando l'uccellagione era praticata come parte di un'economia di sussistenza
i found on Zanichelli either bird trap and bird catching ground.
Maybe the second fits better?.

Explanation:
You definitely seem to be on the right track. I've never heard it called that before (maybe it's an old word). I have heard the term "roccolo" used for this. A "roccolo" is a place between 2 small hills surrounded by trees. Nets were stretched just under where the branches started to "branch" out. They would put seed and corn to attract the birds and then either fire a shot so the birds would try to escape. They would fly down into the net. Near to this place there would also be a small gun shack will a slit for the barrel of the guns to fit through. Hope this sounds like your word. Bird Hunting ground may also work.
Sorry to ramble.

Explanation:
After further consultation with some friends, this practice is like catching birds like you catch fish in a net strung between the trees. The "uccellanda" was the place they prepared and freqented to do this. Maybe you should leave the word in parentheses since it is a very old word and then provide the explanation. It is a bird catching ground, but "uccellanda" sounds better.
Hope I helped.
