Explanation:
In what is referred to in Italy as a "Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali" (e.g. in Naples, Milan etc ...) various university courses are offered, which lead to degrees in physics, mathematics, natural sciences, geology, biology etc. It's almost like saying "The Faculty of Sciences." It appears to be a modern Italian usage, which presumably reflects the reality of modernisation and rearrangements in university administration. But it would not include such studies as medicine or engineering, I imagine. They would certainly not want to get confused with other studies.
