A decree dated July 24th 1798 established the "Classe di Filosofia" with chairs in Mathematics (Elementary, Applied, Advanced), Physics (Theoretical and Experimental), Natural History and Astronomy. Medicine and Humanities were distinct areas. These statutes were virtually unchanged when the Papal State was reconstituted. However, it was not until 1862, with the unification of Italy, that a "Classe di Matematica" was formally established, later renamed "Facolta' di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali".

Thanks to both of you, I was in doubt between that and "Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences." And thanks to Paolo for the 'departments' reminder.
