seems to be in reference to some method of molecular weight determination. This is from a patent application for novel polymers:-
"Determinazione della distribuzione delle masse molecolari (MWD), secondo metodo comunemente in uso via SEC (GPC) in Tetraidrofurano a T = 25°C, utilizzando colonne PL-MIXED A (X 4) e determinazione delle masse molecolari secondo il metodo della Calibrazione Universale (k = 0,000457 dl/g ed a = 0,693)."

Could this be size exclusion chromatography, viz. gel filtration?
