Italian term or phrase: l\'iniezione a ponti
"una fiala...Consigliabile nelle forme artrosiche, localizzate alla colonna, l'iniezione a ponti della grandezza di una moneta da 100 lire sui punti doloranti paravertebrali o sui punti di agopuntura della vescica." I understand the sentence except for "l'iniezione a ponti". Could this be some type of subcutaneous injection? I would be very grateful for any information you may have. Thank you in advance!

I won't venture in some silly explanation, this is just a shot (!) in the dark, but could it be some sort of smallish plastic bridge-shaped device for distributing the substance simultaneously and equally at both sides of the vertebra, or between the vertebraes? I wonder...
