Italian term or phrase: Level/layer - port/gateway
In infrastructure - network architecture terms are level layer synonyms and interchangable - the same question applies to port/gateway. My IT client when using english expressions uses user layer - metro access layer, core layer etc but in italian uses livello eg. " >Servizi di VPN IP: implementazione di VPN a livello 2 e 3 in maniera flessibile e sicura.

Thanks

P.S. If this is considered a dual-posting, I apologise in advance

Layer in english...
Explanation:
I wouldn't use level in English for network infrastructure.
Port is any opening, physical or logical, not just to a network, but to other single machines/parts (ie: printer port). Gateway is used in a more logical, as opposed to physical, sense (ie: the link from the office in chicago goes through our provider's gateway).

Rick,

Thanks very much for clearing up the point. I'd used layer but, on re-checking my text, the doubt came into my head. Idem port/gateway. Your explanation was extremely concise.

Happy Xmas
