Italian term or phrase: il brandeggio per controllo spessori
It's a very technical text, an instruction manual for a measuring bench (banco di misura)......
Maria
English translation:thickness check tilt movement
Explanation:
Hi there. Just guessing as usual, but it is a point of interest, never fully explained in my mind, that while most dictionaries indicate "brandeggio" as a rotary movement, the Italians seem to use it to indicate tilting in technical literature (on a lift truck, for example, the "cilindri di brandeggio" are the "tilt cylinders/jacks", responsible for raking the mast forwards and backwards) - perhaps it has something to do with the gun training usage of the word.
Of course "spessori" could be "shims", but in the context of a dimensional checking system, "thickness" seems more likely.

the traverse to check the thicknesses...

Explanation:

brandeggio = rotazione orizzontale della parte superiore di una struttura su un supporto verticale (dizionario italiano sabatini coletti).
brandeggio = traverse (rotazione intorno a un asse verticale) dal dizionario italiano-inglese garzanti hazon.
traverse = (gunnery) the horizontal turning of a gun so as to make it point in any required direction; (machinery) the motion of a lathe tool or grinding wheel along a piece of work; a part moving along apiece of work in this way, as the carriage of a lathe. (from the webster's encyclopedic unabridged dictionary).

With almost no context, it's quite difficult, but I gave it a tray. Hope this helps. Patricia Ferreira

Shimming check traverse

Explanation:
Shimming means "spessori, spessoramento", I think that in this case it can work better.
Hope it helps!

thickness gauge traverse

Explanation:
As per Marolli's Dizionario Tecnico, it's the part that controls the desired thickness. Good Luck!
