Risulta possibile definire altri tipi di data buffers (string_data_buffer) la cui gestione si discosta leggermente dal caso principale (8_bit_data_buffer da e verso l'applicativo e 2_bit_data_buffer in rete) solamente per il fatto che usando il tipo string il buffer deve essere trasmesso "in chiaro" all'interno del messaggio.
