not sure if this would be the best translation, but Pilozzo, at least here in Italy, is a type of sink (usually placed outside) where you can wash clothes. Its the type that has a front section with an unsmooth surface place to scrubb items. Sorry if I am not explaining it well what I wanted to explain is that "sink" by itself is to generic.

agree  Jane Griffiths: "laundry sink" could be useful for this - see http://www.kitchkof.com/Washington_Large_Laundry_Ceramic_Kit... I'd call what Elena described a sink, rather than a basin.
