Explanation:
Im Buch "Proverbs" von Jerzy Gluski fand ich auch folgende Uebersetzung: Der Wolf ändert das Haar und bleibt, wie er war.
"Die Katze..." ist jedoch die bessere Lösung.
Das Sprichwort bedeutet in etwa: Dein Charakter wird sich nie ändern, auch wenn du dies äusserlich vielleicht vorgibst.

In diesem Sinne hat das folgende Sprichwort eine ähnliche Bedeutung:
"Wer einmal lügt, dem glaubt man nicht, auch wenn er mal die Wahrheit spricht." (Al bugiardo non è creduto il vero / il bugiardo conosciuto, da nessuno è mai creduto).
