INSULA
Area urbana delimitata da strade,casa urbana d'affitto, plurifamiliare,a sviluppo verticale.

e sul dizionario di italiano:
insula
[vc. dotta, lat. insula(m), di etim. incerta; a. 1550]
1 (archeol.) Isolato di una città romana.

quindi potrebbe essere inteso come sinonimo di "isolato"

Vielen Dank, ich habe selber sogar schon mal "insulae" in einem anderen historischen Text übersetzt (mehr oder weniger als antiker Häuserblock), den Begriff allerdings nicht in mein Wörterbuch aufgenommen :-(... jetzt war mir das absolut entfallen.
Die lateinische Bezeichnung gefällt mir übrigens nicht so gut, weil der Text eh schon kompliziert genug ist!

vielleicht einfach den lat. Begriff beibehalten.

zu den Infos von Ilde noch im Devoto-Oli:

insula: Termine che nell'antica Roma designo' prima la "casa" con le adiacenze, e quindi il caseggiato con fondi a appartamenti d'affitto.
