1) Beata de ciertas comunidades religiosas belgas(de Lambert le Bègue, siglo xii, su fundador)
2) sinónimo de "begardo"= hereje de los siglos xiii y xiv que profesaba doctrinas análogas a las de los iluminados, creía en la implacabilidad del alma, vivía en la pobreza y rechazaba toda autoridad civil y religiosa, y toda práctica del culto.

Por lo que se refiere a el punto 1) la palabra tiene sóla el femenino: beguina; si se usa la palabra en el sentido 2) hay los dos generos: beguino/beguina = begardo/begarda.
