Yo diría: "Los extintores por aerosol, gracias a su composición química especial, pueden apagar fuegos aunque no se dirijan (no se apliquen) directamente.

Diletta, yo creo que si no traduces literalmente en este caso se entiende mejor y suena más castellano. Mira el enlace que te propongo. La verdad es que nunca había oído hablar de los extintores en forma de aerosol, pero ahí los describen muy bien. ¡Feliz Año!
