[ voce biblica, di origine siriaca ]. – La ricchezza terrena esaltata e quasi divinizzata; il demone tentatore della ricchezza, e quindi il diavolo stesso: non potete servire insieme a Dio e a mammona , traduz. del lat. della Vulgata non potestis Deo servire et mammonae ( Matteo 6 , 24 , e Luca 16 , 13 , che ha mamonae ) e del gr. οὐ δύνασϑε Θεῷ δουλεύειν καὶ μαμωνᾷ.
