Japanese term or phrase: 幾何学罫画大意
This appears in the following passage:

... 上等小学ではこれらに加えて、史学大意、幾何学罫画大意、博物学大意、化学大意、地域の状況によっては、外国語学の一二、記簿法、画学、天球学を斟酌して教えることとされた。

Parsing this, I get 幾何学 = geometry and 大意 = synopsis, or overview. It is the 罫画 part I am having a hard time with. I am thinking it might mean "linear drawing", but am not sure. I have thus tentatively translated 幾何学罫画大意 as "an overview of geometry and linear drawing."

Any help is sincerely appreciated.

In the website sited below the meaning of this word is discussed in Japanese. The author is suggesting that it means 測量画法入門. And then I translated this as above.

introduction to grid copy method (copying images using grids)

Explanation:
罫画 is an image copied by using a grid. I don't think 幾何学 needs to be translated as geometry. Here, it seems to refer "shapes" (outlines).

agree  Marc Brunet: 'grid' is the term. Good elliptic choice made for a more definite sense of the heading. 1 suggestion: Grid-based copying method.
