Auxis
Explanation:
宗田節(ソウダガツオ), romanized as soudagatsuo or 'soda katsuo.'
Scientific name = Auxis (this is the genus or 'family' name)
Common name = 'Bullet Tuna' or 'Frigate Tuna' (depending on sub-species)

From: http://www.coara.or.jp/~sueyoshi/data01/saba.html (Scroll to near the bottom of the page).
Soudagatsuo (Auxis) are distributed around the Japan. These are Hirasouda Auxis thazard and Marusouda Auxis rochei .Name in Oita is "Subota""Rousoku-uo". Hirasouda is flater than Marusouda. It is called "Suma""Rousoku(candle)"and"Mejika". It is good for sashimi just like a Katsuo "Skipjack"

Many commercial producers sell bonito flakes made from bullet mackerel or bullet tuna called "soda katsuo". It"s cheaper and not considered sashimi quality.

There seem to be several sub-species of the Auxis genus.
