My cilent got me a better quality source page. It turns out that the name of principal #5 (the one that was then current, and who was, in fact, ���� ����) was printed on top of a somewhat rubbed out and faded name of principal #4! The latter is mentioned in the history of the Home, and is �v�ۓc�ɍ�. They covered the last four kanji of Kubota san's name, so the hisashi character was still showing, although faded. �S���l�������ȁB

I found a Web site which identifies this person, and the name is actually ����. The question remains - what is that other character doing there? Could it be some kind of symbol standing for a title? The person is (was) the Principal of an Anglican orphanage for mixed-blood children in Japan. I'll keep this open overnight in case someone has any ideas.

There are two names, one above the other, with titles. The �v definitely lines up with the first part of the other person's �c��.
The are actually a handful of Google matches, but they aren't much help for different reasons.
