Japanese to English translations [Non-PRO]
Art/Literary - Journalism / Interview
Japanese term or phrase: スーダラ
"スーダラな方向へ"

The term is part of a headline for a magazine interview with an author discussing taking a new direction in their literary career.

I found an explanation of the term here (http://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q126... It is supposed to be a reference to an early Showa era pop song (http://www.mahoroba.ne.jp/~gonbe007/hog/shouka/suudarabushi....

I'm honestly not sure if this is even a real word.

父親いわく、親鸞聖人も駅のベンチで寝てはいなかったけれど、「わかっちゃいるけどやめられない」と思いながらも罪に罪を重ねて生きていたのだそうな。確かに悪人正機説だもんね。「善人なおもて往生をとぐ、いわんや悪人をや」というのはスーダラ節ですか。そうですか。凄いなあ。
