Japanese to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Manufacturing
Japanese term or phrase:習慣, as part of 6S, a word that starts with S
I have found 5S, which is 整理 (Sort)，整頓 (Set in Order)，清潔 (Shine)，清掃(Standardize)，躾(Sustain).
However, there is also a 6S, which includes all of the above, plus 習慣. Does anybody know if there is a standard word for this that starts with an S to match the others? I have searched a lot on Google but couldn't find one.
Translating 清掃 as "standardize" is news to me - are you sure that's not a mistake?
Also, I (fortunately) never had to translate 3S, 4S or 6S into English, but I would probably try to make it into a word-acronym (like S.M.A.R.T. goal setting) instead of trying to go with just S.
If you REALLY want to find something starting with S for 習慣 though, how about "second nature"? Yeah, it's pushing it a bit, but I can't think of anything else that would fit...

Explanation: 5S ... or 6S when special attention is added for safety, is a method used to help us make our workplace safe, clean, neat and organized. It provides a specific location for everything, and eliminates anything not required. It embeds quality into the workforce.....
Explanation: If 清潔 were translated differently I would suggest "standard practice/standard operating procedure" or "SOP" for 6 - which is a "prescribed procedure to be followed routinely". At a stretch "Spread the custom" might fit.
