走り始めてしばらくしてからハタと気が付いた。燃料計の針が下の方に振り切れてしまっている。あわててキョロキョロ見回しても、ガソリンスタンドが見当たらない。ハテ、困った。ガス欠だ。

If you are looking for a good dictionary of Japanese onomatopoetic word, I suggest you to get Eijiro CD-ROM version.
A dictionary named 音辞郎 is included in it, this is useful to find the tip of translation for onomatopoetic words.
