Explanation: Not a very good idea to pose a question about a fraction of this kind of sentence as there could be various different translations on how you would translate it.
Anyway..."対応を保つこと" infers that something should correspond to some other thing as the basic interpretation. From that, a kind of translation "should correspond to" could be possibly applicable in this case. And what are corresponding in this sentence? That is the new and old files saving the referred functions apparently. (Pardon me about the "mojibake" part - garbled - I can't help!)
A file saving a fucntion should correspond to the initial file saving the original function. (etc.)
