investigational device
Explanation:
Placebo control. Applicable in situations where there may be a placebo effect with the use of the investigational device – involves a comparison of the results of the investigational device with an ineffective device under conditions designed to resemble the conditions of use under investigation to the extent possible.

And "ierīce" is "device", certainly not "cure" or some such thing.

neutral  Egils Turks (X): "Ierīce" indeed can be translated as "device"; however, David mentioned placebo, and, as far as I know, it's mostly about testing medicines, not devices; then, "investigational cure/means/vehicle" could be the right one. And, btw, 2nd link is not working.
