Lithuanian to English translations [PRO]
Lithuanian term or phrase: baibak
Baibak is my last name
matthew
English translation:Baibokas
Explanation:
It comes from a Russian word "baibak" =
Siberian marmot & steppe marmot. Colloq.= lazybones, sluggard.
Anyway, neither in Russian nor in Lithuanian nobody remembers that as a "marmot". Everybody knows it as a "sensless person" (sort of Oblomov, see Goncharov and his novel "Oblomov"). Anyway, neither "Baibokas" nor "Baibak" carries no offensive sense, the sense is, I'd say, humorous and full of uderstanding.
