Yes, that's what I knew. But the problem is that English doesn't tolerate a CONTRAST between two UNRELATED ideas (in other words, the fact that the letter was late has no relation to the setting of a meeting). I think I had to rearrange the sentences somewhat. Sorry about the delay.
