(cattle) rancher Explanation: (história) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 29 mins (2003-12-30 22:31:52 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Gaucho charqueadores were the sort of \"cowboy\" cattle ranchers of the south of Brasil in the 19th century... there is a certain comparison with ranchers in the old west who were creating dried meat (carne-seca), which is what charque is. While it\'s still popular in Brasil (especially during carnaval with macaxeira in the northeast!), I\'m not sure that the term charqueador is still widely used. Thus, I\'m guessing it refers to a historical passage. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 36 mins (2003-12-30 22:39:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Segundo o historiador Mário Maestri, os \"fazendeiros, charqueadores, homens livres, gaúchos e cativos negros foram envolvidos e participaram, muitas vezes ombro a ombro, da Revolta Farroupilha, como o fizeram, mais tarde nas guerras civis de 1893 e 1923. Porém, os trabalhadores pastoris jamais possuíram qualquer real comunhão de ideário, político e social, com seus patrões. Fazendeiros e charqueadores lutaram em 1835 para ampliar riquezas e poder\" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 37 mins (2003-12-30 22:40:33 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Also, from http://www.oficinainforma.com.br/semana/leituras-20000916/2....
