Estou a traduzir uma certidão de nascimento portuguesa expedida por uma determinada repartição consular. Nela consta a assinatura de um funcionário e abaixo está escrito 'chanceler'. Qual seria o equivalente deste cargo em inglês? Não consegui encontrá-lo em minhas pesquisas, mas sei que não é 'chancellor'. Acredito ser uma posição abaixo daquela exercida pelo cônsul. Agradeço de antemão.

Asker: Hi Ana, thanks for your suggestion and link. My only reservation is that I've never seen the term 'chancellor' be used with reference to a senior official of a diplomatic mission. In the British press, it usually refers to the Chancellor of the Exchequer or the head of government of certain countries (e.g. Germany). I wonder if the link has been mistranslated by a member of the embassy (given the unquestionable similarity between the two words).
