Portuguese to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial
Portuguese term or phrase:contraprestações
...as contraprestações podem ser consideradas como despesa operacional da pessoa jurídica arrendatária....
payments (in this case, could be rent or lease payments)
Explanation: I agree with the first answerer. Why the word "contraprestacoes" is used to simply mean payments is not always clear - but it definitely implies a payment FOR something received in return.

Explanation: alone is fine for "contraprestações." (The Portuguese word overtly implies, as mentioned above, that the payment is in exchange FOR something, whereas in English, the idea of an exchange of money in return for goods and/or services is implicit in the word "payment.")
The type of payment at issue here is made clear later in the sentence: "...payments may be treated as an operating expense by the party acting as the lessee..."
NOTE: "pessoa jurídica" is transated as "artificial person" or "juristic person" in two of the better PO>EN dictionaries (Taylor and Michaelis), but either of those phrases is quite clumsy in English. However, if you like, "legal entity" would be a good alternative to simply "party."
Heathcliff United States Local time: 12:38 Native speaker of: English PRO pts in pair: 231
Explanation: No Brasil as parcelas pagas em uma operação de arrendamento financeiro (leasing), como parece ser o caso do seu texto, são denominadas "contraprestações". Desta forma, sugiro aceitar a sugestão do colega Fernandes (telef).

Explanation: The comments about payment and exchanges FOR something are spot-on, I agree. However, in American English, at least, the adjective should be "lease" instead of "leasing" (just like "rent payments"). Also, "pessoa juridica" could be "corporate entity" depending on the context. Heathcliff is right that the dictionary translations are unwieldy.
