WHEN também pode ser usado, mais é um pouco mais ambigüo, subentende "tempo", ou seja , QUANDO (e não SE)for aplicável, - entende-se que em algum ponto "será aplicável".
Pente fino, realmente, sem muita importância.
Quando os anglofônicos querem se expressar bem eles dizem "IF and WHEN", para mostrar a diferença.
