"Câmbio manual" são as operações de compra e venda de moedas estrangeiras para entrega em espécie: o mercado inclui nessa modalidade também as operações para entrega em traveler’s cheques, embora conceitualmente essas sejam de câmbio sacado. Como exemplo, pode-se citar a venda ou a compra de moeda para aqueles que vão deixar o país ou estão retornando de suas viagens.

"Câmbio sacado" são as operações de câmbio liquidadas por débito ou crédito nas contas em moedas estrangeiras mantidas no exterior pelos bancos vendedores ou compradores, por meio de ordens de pagamentos, cheques, autorizações de crédito e de débito etc. Obviamente, a grande maioria das operações de valor expressivo são de “câmbio sacado”.
