The American Translators Association also has "corresponding members".

The idea seems to be that members thus designated enjoy most, but not all, of the privileges and status of those who are "full" members.

For the ATA, "Corresponding Members" are those who are citizens of countries other than the USA, so the idea of "residing at a distance" would indeed apply.
