A Ponte caracteriza-se por um tabuleiro superior com cerca de 400m de comprimento, suportado por um conjunto de sete pilares e um arco inferior com 172m de corda e 45m de flecha. Existem cinco pilares metálicos, três dos quais em treliça, dois secundários e os restantes são em alvenaria. Os pilares secundários descarregam directamente no arco enquanto os restantes pilares metálicos descarregam em plintos de alvenaria. O arco, ****articulado na nascença***, suspende o tabuleiro rodoviário por intermédio de quatro pendurais – montantes de suspensão. Toda a estrutura é uma estrutura articulada, conforme era tradicional em pontes da mesma época, constituída por barras de secção composta rebitada, em geral formadas a partir de cantoneiras ou barras de secção rectangular.
