Portuguese term or phrase: a toda hora
Very simple apparently...

Outros precisam de um (portable computer) extremamente pequeno e leve para viagens a TODA HORA.

It's hardly correct to say journeys *at all hours*, since the fact that someone is travelling at any TIME of the day or night is hardly relevant to the WEIGHT s/he has to carry. I couldn't check this in a dictionary so...

I need to confirm if that is the CORRECT translation/meaning i.e. a toda hora = all hours?

Could it possibly mean something else, e.g. FREQUENT travelling.

I need to be very precise as my translation tutor is VERY literal, so I have to absolutely justify any deviation form literalness..

...for travel at any time
Explanation:
It may be time you taught your tutor a thing or two about the limits of literal translation. I favor faithful rendition of the source material, so long as the structural and idiomatic constraints of the target language are respected, and the style requirements of the genre and topic are fulfilled. Beyond that, literalness ceases to be a virtue.

Literally, "a toda hora" means "at any time." More literalness than this would be rather silly.

The text here is saying that a very small, lightweight computer would facilitate an itinerant mode of being, whether that is considered travel, commuting, or simply being "on the go." That is how I understand this text, and that is what the translation should say. The possibilities are not exactly infinite, but here are some examples of what you can do with the phrase "para viagens a toda hora."

...for travel at any time

...for frequent traveling

...for being constantly on the move

...for being on the move at all times

When you have become more comfortable with a less literal approach to translation than your tutor is willing to allow, you may want to revisit this sentence and toss its phrasing around a few times to see how it would come out it. Example:

Those who are on the move at all times need a very small, lightweight [portable computer].

Thanks for all the options, which I will now study.

I also liked your comments re my tutor, as it's a real pain in the neck, but although I appreciate the discipline of being forced to toe the line, I believe it's the experienced translators who are confident in their ability that take 'risks' of diverging slightly....

At all times

Explanation:
Without context this sounds a little forced, but the gist is that some people need portable computers with them in case they take a trip whenever.
At all hours would be a qualquer hora or something like that.

for easy transportation

Explanation:
I would translate "para viagens a TODA HORA" as "for easy transportation". You may also translate "a toda hora" as "when required".......... I saw this phrase in many websites related to portable computers... Each Hercules is equipped with a handsome carrying case for easy transportation.

At any hour, at any time

Explanation:
You know, there is a very simple sense of the phrase:
Outros precisam de um (portable computer) extremamente pequeno e leve para viagens a TODA HORA.

(Portable Computer should be mentioned earlier, then:)
Others need an extremely small and light one for traveiing at any time.

In Portuguese this means that, say some persons need heavy-duty workstations (minitower, desktop, etc.) and might work at such a PC, say at home. Meanwhile other people exist who need a very small portable and LIGHT-weighting computer in order to take it with them at ANY HOUR, or (if you like this more) ANY MINUTE.
Simply imagine the problem of a simple relocating you desktop PC: disassembling part, trasporting, and then joining, plugs, wires, switches, supply, etc.;)So, they try to explain that some people need to have small and perfectly portable PC which can be simply put into pocket or handled as a notebook...

That is the sense of this excerpt.

at any moment, ideal for frequent travelling

Explanation:
Frequent travelling is OK.
"A toda hora" is coloquial. It is not in common dicitionaries but can be accurately translated as above (frequent, for frequent travelling).

4 hrs
at any time

Explanation:
a toda hora é usado no sentido de a qualquer hora, que, em inglês (USA), traduz-se como -at any time-
This is my feeling (after using the language for 38 years )
O at any time ou o a qualquer hora dá a sugestão de que pode ser inesperado o que concorre com a idéia de um lap top que você possa precisar de repente.
Good Luck

Frequent or all the time

Explanation:
I agree with you that is not the time, is the frequency that determines the benefit of a low weight computer. I would use frequent travels (or trips) or would rearrange the whole sentence as "Other people travel all the time, and they need an extremely lightand small portable computer".What do you think?
