Portuguese term or phrase: ...parcela da funçao de custo
I think 'parcela' might refer to a part of an equation? Is the other 'cost function', in maths (not financial) sense?

Explanation:
There's very little to go on here, but a literal rendering -- "portion of the cost function" -- suggests that the context might have to do with derivatives (that is, the particularly esoteric branch of financial trading that deals with secondary and tertiary economic instruments which are valued according to the expected price movements of an underlying asset, such as a currency or commodity). If memory serves, some recent work in the theoretical mathematics of derivatives earned the researchers a shared Nobel in economics... Anyway, just a thought.

Unfortunately, if it were a Financial Markets text, I wouldn't be having the doubts I'm having, but in fact the author refers to an equation (thus portion is probably right) and cost function at the same time, in the context of modelling systems. I have checked the web, but without success - cost function only appears in the financial sense.
