Esta idiossincrasia é uma fonte fácil de gozação com os americanos aqui. Eles sempre dizem "hot water heater" e a pergunta óbvia é: "If the water is already hot, why the heater? Shouldn't it be cold water heater?" E o mais engraçado é que quase ninguém tem a presença de espírito para explicar que a questão é diferenciar da calefação de ambiente ("the [space] heater"). disagree  coolbrowne: No Brasil "boiler" indica apenas o aquecedor (central) de água, para lavagem (de corpo, louça e roupa). Antigamente era o honesto aquecedor mas, nos anos 70 passou a ser moda usar termos americanos | Se não faz sentido por quê propor com resposta?

  -> !!! In Brasil, 'boiler' is meaningless - it's English.//Duhhh... ICYHN, this is a por-eng question. It doesn't matter one iota what 'boiler' means to a Brazilian - it's the correct term in English as used by us Englishmen.
agree  Georgia Morg (X): I would say combination boiler, at least that's what I have in ,my flat in London, meaning the gas heats up both the water for the taps and for the radiators
