usually it's understood from the context what you're wedging with, and anyway, wedges are usually wood (although occasionally of other materials) becuase of the flexibility of wood. Certainly in a wood-working context.

Explanation: would be a good English equivalent if the phrase appears in a sentence. However, if it is one of a number of phrases in a list, it would probably be better to put it this way in English: "Securing of the frames, using small wooden wedges."
You could also invert the sentence, although doing so would place the emphasis on the wedges, rather than on the act of securing the frames: "...the use of small wooden wedges to secure the frames" or "...the use of small wooden wedges to hold the frames in place."
