Portuguese term or phrase: diferenciado
"Conceberam o que eles próprios designaram por robô polimórfico, uma máquina capaz de alterar a sua própria forma para poder desempenhar tarefas diferenciadas and específicas."
Sue Simons
varied or unequal
Explanation:
The word 'diferenciado' in Portuguese from Portugal has a different meaning than that found in Brazilian Portuguese.
In fact, in modern marketing lingo, 'diferenciado' can be 'sophisticated' or 'discriminating', in Brazilian Portuguese. But as a technical word, it shoulkd be interpreted as varied or unequal.

Hence my translation:
"They designed what they called a polimorphic robot, a machine capable of altering its own form to perform varied (unequal) as well as specific tasks."

sophisticated

Explanation:
tarefas diferenciadas are those tasks which require some special capacity or talent to perform. "Um público diferenciado," to give another example of the scope of this work, is a public with well-formed tasted, above-average education and culture. This is quite different from the simple "diferente" or different, and shouldn't be confused with it.
