'ebotinada' looks so strange, I wonder if it's been correctly spelt.

if "ebotinada" is really a misspelling of "ebonitada," the phrase would be "hard rubber" or "vulcanized rubber" (that is, a tough, cross-linked, usually sulfur-treated material with very good electrical-insulation properties, which is pretty much what you'd want in a power plant..)
