Histria, colonie greacă pe ţărmul dobrogean al Mării Negre (astăzi pe maulul lacului Sinoe), a fost întemeiată către mijlocul secolului VII a.Chr., de către colonişti din Milet (conform ştirilor transmise de Eusebius, o posibilă dată a întemeierii ar fi de plasat în anii 657/656 a. Chr, iar după tradiţia menţionată de către Ps.-Skymnos, anul 630 a.Chr. ar putea reprezenta data fondării cetăţii) şi a existat vreme de 14 secole, până în sec. VII p.Chr. Ea este cea mai veche colonie greacă din vestul Pontului Euxin şi una dintre primele întemeiate în bazinul acestei mări, fiind în acelaşi timp primul oraş atestat pe teritoriul actualei Românii.
