Речь здесь, IMHO, не о «третьем преимуществе», а, скорее, о третьей «ноте» (в переносном смысле), которая – в сочетании с двумя другими (видимо, описанными выше в Вашем тексте) – создает полноту картины и, следовательно, гармонию. «Beautification process» мне тоже представляется несколько тяжеловесным решением для текста на такую изящную тему, но – каков оригинал, таков и перевод, ведь идеальный перевод должен быть максимально приближенным к оригиналу не только по смыслу, но и по форме или, как пишут ученые, по эффекту (см. статью Д.М. Бузаджи на эту тему в одном из номеров «Мостов»: «Перевод коммуникативно неполноценных текстов как теоретическая и практическая проблема»). Проблема заключается в том, что переводчик часто оказывается перед выбором – попытаться понять и передать в переводе СМЫСЛ, неполноценно выраженный автором, или ЭФФЕКТ, чтобы у читателя перевода тоже брови поднялись от удивления (при последнем сценарии, правда, есть риск, что в неадекватности обвинят переводчика, а не автора). ВЫВОД: корявый русский в обсуждаемом нами тексте – явно буквальный перевод с английского в духе «вторичного продукта» по В. Войновичу (см. «Москва 2042»), поэтому буквальный обратный перевод “third chord” (в значении «третья струна» или даже «третья нота») и представлялся бы наиболее уместным.
